Business Spotlight: Alamo Pecan & Coffee — Pecans, Coffee & Friendship

In the Pecan Capital of the World, few businesses capture the flavor, hospitality, and community spirit of San Saba quite like Alamo Pecan & Coffee.

Built on a love for pecans, a willingness to dream big, and a commitment to treating customers like friends, Alamo Pecan & Coffee has grown from a creative idea into a San Saba destination known near and far.

Where Pecans Meet Coffee

The vision behind Alamo Pecan & Coffee was simple but ambitious: proudly promote San Saba and its pecan industry while creating a one-stop destination for quality pecan products, gifts, and something a little unexpected—coffee.

Co-founder Dora Miller brought more than 25 years of experience in the pecan industry, while the Whitten family contributed their business and financial expertise. Together, they began building a company rooted in quality, creativity, and a willingness to try something new.

That spirit led to a question that would help shape the business:

“If we were selling coffee beans, why not brew it, froth it, ice it, or frappe it?”

In 2003, Alamo introduced its coffee line featuring pecan-roasted beans, including Texas Pecan and Mocha Pecan. What initially began as another way to bring locals through the doors grew into a signature part of the Alamo experience. Today, their Texas Pecan Coffee has developed a following both near and far, alongside flavored coffees and their coffee club.

Over the years, Alamo has also become known for raw and flavored pecans, specialty treats, custom gift baskets, corporate gifting, and personalized gifts—all while proudly showcasing San Saba's pecan heritage.

Faith, Family & Effort

Like many successful small businesses, Alamo Pecan & Coffee has never stood still.

The business has continually evolved, investing in new markets, expanding its brand, embracing social media, and finding new ways to reach customers. Through market fluctuations, growing pains, and the uncertainties that come with the pecan industry, one thing has remained constant: the values behind the business.

Faith. Family. Effort.

Those values extend across generations. One of the things the Alamo family treasures most is seeing their children—and now their children's children—become part of the operation.

With new generations bringing fresh ideas and leadership, the team believes the future holds exciting possibilities while remaining grounded in the same commitment that built the business: providing exceptional products to exceptional customers.

More Than Pecans & Coffee

While many people know Alamo for pecans, coffee, and gift baskets, the company offers much more.

Alamo has expanded into wedding and social gathering favors, seminar and business event gifts, client thank-you gifts, corporate gifting, and gifts for the medical market, where pecans can serve as a delicious and nutritious alternative to traditional gift options.

Their goal is to continue finding new ways to share pecans and promote what they believe makes them special: outstanding flavor and nutrition.

And there is even more on the horizon.

Alamo Pecan & Coffee has acquired Great San Saba River Pecan, bringing its award-winning Pecan Preserves, Pie in a Jar, and other specialty products into the Alamo family. The expansion opens another exciting chapter as the business approaches an incredible milestone—nearly 30 years in business.

Their new tagline says it perfectly:

More Pecans Please!

A Business With a Heart for San Saba

Perhaps one of the most meaningful parts of the Alamo story is what happens beyond the products on the shelves.

Each season, the Alamo team looks for a need in the community and finds a way to help.

Over the years, their projects have included coat drives, teacher gifts, shoe collections, school supply drives, food collections, donations for flood victims, lunchbox and snack donations, and assistance for local families experiencing difficult circumstances.

Their parking lot has hosted countless fundraisers benefiting scholarships, families facing health challenges, and neighbors experiencing emergencies.

Giving back isn't simply something Alamo does. It is part of who they are.

The team affectionately known as “Team Elf” has embraced that spirit year after year, helping Alamo return the support San Saba County has shown the business for nearly three decades.

Proudly San Saba

For Alamo Pecan & Coffee, doing business in San Saba County—the Pecan Capital of the World—is something special.

The community provides endless opportunities for inspiration, marketing, relationships, and access to the product at the heart of their business. Just as importantly, San Saba has provided Alamo with a dedicated team of employees who step up year after year to get the job done.

The pecan industry isn't without challenges. Every harvest brings questions about the crop, the market, and competitive pricing. Yet each year begins with prayer, gratitude, and a commitment to keep moving forward.

The doors open, customers walk in, and the Alamo team gets another opportunity to continue building the dream.

Pecans, Coffee & Friendship

Asked to describe Alamo Pecan & Coffee in just three words, the answer couldn't be more fitting:

Pecans. Coffee. Friendship.

And when you walk through their doors, you can expect exactly that kind of experience—a warm welcome, product samples, a story or two, and a smile.

At Alamo, the customer is the “why.”

Whether you're a longtime local stopping in for your favorite coffee, a visitor discovering San Saba pecans for the first time, or someone searching for the perfect Texas gift, the Alamo team wants every visit to be memorable enough to bring you back again and again.

As Alamo Pecan & Coffee approaches 30 years in business, its story continues to be one of innovation, perseverance, faith, family, community, and—of course—plenty of pecans.
